Start with a pea sized ball of fondant (I've used a larger piece in the demonstration to make it easier to see the technique).
Roll the fondant into a ball. Then roll on one end until it becomes elongated into a cone shape.
Hook the top of the cone end to form the head and pinch the back of the ball to create a tail.
Pinch the end of the head to create a pointed beak (for a chicken) or pinch it flat to create a bill (for a duck). Sit it upright to flatten the bottom.
Once you are happy with the body shape create a line along either side of the body to represent the wing.
Colour in the chicken/duck with edible colours and use a cocktail stick dipped in black food colouring to dot in the eye.
Finally, place it in the relevant spot on your cake and fix it in place with some icing.
Keep going until you get a flock!
