This creepy silhouette cake was great fun to make and it would look great at a Halloween party lit by candles and surrounded by ghoulishly delicious food!
I started by icing a large cake in white icing, then sat and painstakingly cut out templates from paper. I ended up with a lot of graveyard scenes, town scenes, some creepy trees, bats, birds, castle and a witch.
I used black lusterdust for the scenes, then a grey lusterdust for some background detail. I didn't use the town stencils, but the castle got in there! It was really painstaking and I think the next time I do it I'll do the background before I do the foreground despite the risk of smudging.
The airbrushing came next (in my homemade airbrushing box!); I mixed up a light blue and set to work, then added drops of red to make a deeper blue and then a purple. I was really happy with the finished result as the graves almost seem to be slightly aglow!
Finishing touches included the gold lusterdust lightening and the black lettering. I think it has come out great, but as usual I value your opinions so let me know what you think!
The only additional element I would have added to this cake is a cake board with freestanding gravestones (bearing amusing epitaphs) and maybe a 3D skull or two!
